High schools backing SATs boycott as primary heads hold firm over exams snub

The majority of primary schools in Congleton are boycotting the SAT exams this week after head teachers took a stand against the "unfair" system of assessment.
Heads of all 14 of the town's primary schools agreed that the exams, taken by year six pupils, should be abolished. Ten schools are boycotting the tests.
And the head teachers of Congleton's two secondary schools have confirmed to the "Chronicle" that they are supporting the action, and will take part in a moderation exercise with primary schools this summer to help with the transition of pupils to high school.
However, the boycott could lead to school governors docking headteachers' pay for the time they should have spent administering the exams.
