The Bridestones shopping centre revamp could "seriously jeopardise" the viability of other parts of Congleton town, councillors fear. Modus Developments plans to expand the centre with a new supermarket, hotel, shops, cafés, car park and a market square. The plans were put on hold when Modus went into administration, but have been taken on by Scarborough Developments. Congleton Town Council set up a working group to examine the plan. It recommends that any decision should be delayed until the developers consult both the town and Cheshire East councils and a report on the state of the town's shopping areas is produced.
The report will be presented to the town council's Planning Committee tonight (Thursday).
