The headteachers' boycott of SAT exams in which 10 Congleton schools took part, has been called "regrettable" with councillors claiming that those schools would not be accountable to taxpayers.
The exams test year six pupils who are about to move into secondary school and the results are used in league tables. Last month, 10 of Congleton's 14 primary schools were among those in Cheshire East joining the boycott, voted for by members of the National Teachers' Union and National Association of |Head Teachers on the grounds that the exams did not accurately measure achievement.
The rebellious Congleton primaries had the backing of the town's two secondary schools, Eaton Bank and Congleton High.
Thirty-six out of Cheshire East's 124 primary schools took part in the boycott.
