The 150 residents, traders and volunteers at Tuesday's meeting about Sandbach's town plan made it clear they wanted free parking better sports facilities, more allotments, more events and increased tourism. They wanted to promote the town's heritage and markets and did not like the sight of empty shops, litter and traffic on the high street.
Sandbach Partnership chairman Dot Flint told members of the public who met at the town hall: "We could have great events in Sandbach and really bring people into the town for the whole of the year. "By working together we could achieve so much more. "We really want to get a vibrant town to keep our youngsters here and to stop them from moving to other towns." On arriving at the meeting, people from Sandbach Heath, Ettiley Heath, Wheelock, Elworth and Sandbach signed in and were given a sticky dot to place on a map, to record where they were from.
