The new Congleton credit union has been described as a success in its first week, with 11 people signing up over the first couple of days. The partnership between the Cheshire Neighbours credit union and Plus Dane housing group is based at Plus Dane's offices at Shepherds Mill, Worrall Street, Congleton and offers services to local people, including those who may struggle to get credit elsewhere. Carl Thomson, Plus Dane's financial inclusion officer, said: "We are delighted with the take up so far. The credit union is working to keep local money in the community. It gives people a choice. They don't have to go to costly credit agencies or fall into the clutches of doorstep lenders; there is an alternative.
