The daughter of a Sandbach farmer whose life was saved by one of his employees grabbed the bull by the horns this week. Following last week's front-page story, Fred Davies called the "Chronicle" to say that his wife, Margaret, was the daughter of Samuel Eaton, the farmer who narrowly missed being gored by a bull over 50 years ago.
Mr Eaton, who owned Reynolds Farm, Sandbach Heath, was saved by Italian farm worker Giovanni Martone in March 1959. Mr Eaton, who was aged 50 at the time, was leading his seven year-old Shorthorn back to its pen by its nose ring, when it twisted its head and charged at the farmer. He tried to gain control of the animal and Mr Martone, then 29, heard his boss's cries for help. He grabbed the nose ring from his bloodied employer and wrestled with the bull for five minutes.
