The Military in Congleton
Soon after writing about the 250th anniversary of the arrival in Congleton of troops fighting in the Scotch rebellion, followed shortly afterwards by their pursuers of the royal army, we unlocked for the first time in years a filing cabinet containing old documents which we had never personally researched, and were amazed to find that among them was an actual copy of a special edition of The London Gazette, dated Thursday, 5th December, reporting the presence of the rebels in Congleton.
