Congleton Museum’s next walk through time is on Sunday at 2pm.
Entitled Congleton and the Age of Enlightenment perambulating participants will learn how England was transformed from a farming economy to an industrial power house in the 18th century and how this economic development affected Congleton.
Within two generations the town had become one of England’s first mill towns. This industrial wealth enabled the town’s industrial and commercial elite to replace the haphazard jumble of timber-framed buildings, which for four centuries had lined its main streets, with elegant town houses and public buildings.
