Lions’ duck race on River Dane
A quacking event for all the family is on the bill at Congleton Park next month.
Congleton Lions Club’s eighth annual duck race will take place on the River Dane on Sunday, 9th September, from 2pm.
This year there are two new additions to the schedule:
● a corporate large duck race sponsored by Kids Planet Day Nurseries, Bloor Homes North West, Astbury Mere Care Home, Jantex Furnishing, Practical Van Hire, North Rode Timber, STD Limited and Tandom Metallurgical Group. This race will start just prior to the main race when up to 2,000 ducks will be dropped in the river.
● Friends of Congleton Park are also planning to organise a children’s treasure hunt in the park, starting at 1pm. People can register for the treasure hunt on the day in the park.
Kids Planet staff will also be offering face painting during the afternoon for both young and the not so young.
Lion David Morris said: “We welcome everyone to come along and cheer the ducks on along with Congleton Town Mayor who will officially start the race along with the town crier. The park and Stock at the Pavilion will be open as normal, and the added attractions should make the afternoon a really enjoyable family event.”
Duck race tickets will be on sale outside Morrison’s on Saturdays, 4th and 11th August; Astbury Garden Centre on Saturday and Sunday, 18th and 19th August and Congleton Town Centre on Saturday, 1st September. Tickets can also be purchased from Congleton Tourist information Centre.
Quackie Duck will be flying in and making appearances on these dates.
Lion Morris added: “We would also like to thank Macclesfield Canoe Club for their support on the river, keeping all the ducks under control.”
