Mr H Moore

The funeral took place on 20th January of Mr Harry Moore, of Congleton, who died on 20th December, aged 95.
Mr Moore was born in Manchester to Mr and Mrs Harry and Eva Moore. He joined the Merchant Navy as a radio officer for Cunard in 1943. In 1944 his ship was deployed to assist in the D Day landings, and he was subsequently awarded the Chevalier Legion D’honneur in 2017, France’s highest honour.
He married Doris in 1951 and they had two children, Robert and Susan.
Mr Moore loved playing golf at Astbury Golf Club and became the seniors’ club captain. He was a lifelong Manchester United and Lancashire Cricket Club fan. He did numerous presentations to various groups about the German cruiser the Admiral Graff Spee aka a “pocket battleship”.
He was an active member of Congleton Probus club, he loved to travel and was renowned for his love of a whisky or two.
Mrs Lindis Pattison-Tadman conducted the service and cremation at Macclesfield Crematorium where It Was A Very Good Year by Frank Sinatra was played on entry. Summer Wind by Frank Sinatra was played during the service and It’s Five O’clock Somewhere was played on exit.
Mourners were: Mr R Moore (son), Mrs S Gardner (daughter), Mr C Gardner (son-in-law), Mr C Gardner Moore (daughter-in-law). Miss H Moore, Mr L Moore, Mr H Gardner and Miss A Redhead and Miss S Gardner and Mr J Layton (grandchildren and partners).
