Mr HEJ Porter
The funeral took place on 5th July of Mr Harold Edward James Porter, aged 94, of Congleton, who died on 20th June at Royal Stoke University Hospital.
Mr Porter was born in Derby on 24th September, 1924. Mr Porter was a Burma Star veteran. At the age of 18 he joined the RAF and served in World War Two.
During the war, he wrote to a pen pal named Hilda and they married, after demobilisation. They set up home in Burton-Upon-Trent, where Mr Porter joined the fire service, driving the fire engine. He was nicknamed “Flash” by his work colleagues.
