Apostrophe should not have been used
Dear Sir, — I’d like to point out a punctuation error on page nine of the Chronicle of 9th January.
In the fourth column you write “A spokesperson for Macclesfield Hospital said that it’s A&E had seen a number of flu cases .....”
This should be “A spokesperson for Macclesfield Hospital said that its A&E had seen a number of flu cases .....”
That is, there should be no apostrophe in “its”, where the meaning is “of it”, rather than “it is”.
I’m sure you remember the phrase “It’s good when the Chronicle get its punctuation correct”.
A rather belated “Happy New Year” to all at the Chronicle. — Yours faithfully,
