Church House Inn was in photograph
Dear Sir, — Having been in hospital over the new year, I have only just got round to reading the article entitled “Before time was called on town’s old pubs” in the 2nd January edition of the Chronicle. I found the section on coaching routes very interesting.
Having written the book on the history of the pubs the rest was well-known to me.
As a result of this, could I correct the fact that the photograph with caption stating it was the Foresters/Masons Arms is not correct. This is in fact a photograph of the original Church House Inn, which was located in the cottages opposite St John’s Church on the Old Buxton Road. The signs on either side of the doorway advertise Allsop’s ales and the large sign on the original photograph clearly states Church House. — Yours faithfully,
