Council will have specified the width
Dear Sir, — Recent letters in the Chronicle have referred to the width of the combined footway/cycleway that is being constructed as part of the Congleton Link Road scheme.
Mr Bolding expressed concerns about the width being insufficient for future growth of non-motorised traffic and Mr Bunte described the various criteria for influencing the design and width of the shared surface.
It is true that the preferred minimum standard for such a pathway is three metres but where there are no restrictions due to availability of land, the preferred option is a segregated footway/cycleway and the width is determined at five metres.
