Cycling shouldn’t be her sole concern

Dear Sir, — While I appreciate that one of my ward councillors, Coun Suzie Akers Smith, has taken on the role of cycling champion on Cheshire East Council, I am becoming a little concerned that cycling issues are rapidly becoming her sole concern.
Cycling UK figures show that cycling trips account for only 1% of all trips taken within the UK and I would not think it is unreasonable to suggest that the figure indicates that only about 1% of UK residents are cyclists.
Suzie continues to insist that the bus shelter on West Road needs to be moved but does she have any idea of how much that would cost?
Regardless of the final cost does she also believe that 100% of all council tax payers should stump up for a totally unnecessary expenditure which would, at best, benefit 1% of the population and, while I stand to be corrected on this, I seem to recall that the bus shelter on West Road was in situ before the cycle lane was formed.
May I respectfully suggest to Suzie that she would do well to concentrate more of her efforts on issues of more local importance to Congletonians than simply cycling. Where, for instance, does she stand on the potential closure of the minor injuries unit at the War Memorial? — Yours faithfully,

GRAHAM GOODWIN
Congleton.
