The worst thing about the Extinction Rebellion demonstrations we saw last week is that it’s probably already too late to avert disaster. We’re just looking at minimising the catastrophe.
The latest Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report makes grim reading. It was prepared by request at the end of the Paris climate talks in December 2015.
Those talks pledged signatories to hold the increase in the global average temperature to below 2°C above pre-industrial levels, and attempt to limit the increase to 1.5°C.
