They say it’s part of the British character to build things up and then gleefully knock them down again. Readers of the NME will remember it was famous for hyping up an exciting new band and then, once the band had reached a certain level of success, telling everyone they were talentless no-marks who didn’t deserve it.
We saw that in Congleton this week — the reaction that one the town’s most successful entrepreneurs had hit a spot of bother was, quite frankly, unbelievable. We had people calling and emailing the office from the middle of last week. It was, to be honest, slightly baffling — and a little annoying.
When we’ve run identical stories or even stories about businesses apparently actively trying to avoid paying their debts, we’ve had no reaction.
