Fairer system of voting is needed
Dear Sir, — The past is the past but we should be able to learn from it.
Before the coalition with the Tories, the Liberal Democrats had approached the Labour Party, which was not in favour of a coalition with the Liberal Democrats — in spite of the fact that we had previously worked together in the Lib/Lab pact.
One of the Lib/Dem conditions for a coalition was that a free vote would be held regarding proportional representation. The Conservatives agreed that, but reneged on it when the campaign came.
With both Tories and Labour wanting to retain the feudal system of election, we have ended up with the mess of Brexit.
