Homes in the north cost half the price
Dear Sir, — The north-south divide significantly favours the north when it comes to affording a home.
A typical three-bedroom semi like mine in Sandbach can be bought for £150,000 or rented for £650 a month, compared with £300,000 or £1,500 rent a month it would fetch in Brighton where I now live.
There is no difference in the average factory or shop worker’s wage whether in Sandbach or Brighton.
But rough sleeping on the streets of Brighton is rife.
Whenever a property is advertised for rent in Brighton, even at £1,500 or £2,000 a month, prospective tenants are queuing up.
