Injured greys will be euthanised
Dear Sir, — Grey squirrels: loveable characters who do much to brighten the lives of very many Chronicle readers in their gardens and local parks, I’m sure.
From 29th March, however, it will be illegal for wildlife rescues and vets to treat or rehabilitate injured grey squirrels under the new alien invasive species order, with licences no longer being issued for rescue work with grey squirrels among other non-native species (which also include muntjac deer, of whom we also have a good number locally).
Under the terms of the order, any injured greys will have to be euthanized instead of receiving treatment and rehabilitation.
