Institution of marriage eroded
Dear Sir, — I was very encouraged to read your report in last week’s Chronicle of our member of Parliament’s criticism and objection to the Government’s proposals to make getting a divorce even easier.
It was extremely concerning to read that the ministry of justice had “cherry picked” the evidence from family justice professionals to justify its proposals when 80% of those who responded didn’t agree with the proposals and that the Government had ignored them.
The institution of marriage has been seriously eroded in my lifetime and I well recall there were even tax benefits to being married.
