Dear Sir, — Most of us need to work to put food on the table. And yet workers’ rights have diminished before our eyes. Low pay, part-time roles, often without sick pay have become normalised, with shift patterns changing from week to week making a second job impossible. The reality of the gig economy and zero hours contracts has meant that with fluctuating monthly pay, people cannot get mortgages, rent or get a bank loan. Labour will ban zero hour contracts and strengthen workers’ rights, which will benefit all workers.
