Let Bloody Sunday lie in history books
Dear Sir, I read Coun Jill Salt’s letter about Bloody Sunday, which started me thinking. I put myself in the position of the soldiers. They were faced with a march against the Maze prison. This in Ireland, where two religious factions were in opposition.
This march eventually turned into a missile-throwing riot.
Going through their minds would be the number of shooting and bombings that had occurred in Ireland.
They did not know if the rioters had guns or explosives, and rightly or wrongly, probably out of fear for their lives they opened fire.
