Memories of new housing estates
Dear Sir, — Woolston Avenue. As the old terraced houses in Congleton, many of which were not up to any habitable standard any more, were being demolished, new estates were being built.
Bromley Farm and Buglawton were two biggest council housing schemes developed in the 50s. Everyone was sent a written letter to attend the council office, which was located on Kinsey Street.
It was about the third house up from the toffee shop at the junction with Park Street, and they told you to bring your rent book. As long as you were up to date with your rent, you would qualify.
