No need to flounce out of Europe
Dear Sir, — In June, you published a copy of the letter I sent to the-then prime minister Theresa May, voicing my concerns about Brexit. Since then a lot has happened but little has changed. My concerns grow.
Of the £100m we get back, each week from the EU, we benefit immensely from how it is used — in educational exchanges and projects, in sciences, the arts, technology and medical research. The restoration of iconic and historic buildings and neighbourhoods that were once called “slums” are now desirable, sought-after locations.
I am especially proud of the difference made to some of those southern European countries that we brought into the EU latterly. They have been lifted out of repressive fascism or weary communism to become the functioning democracies that they are today.
