Parking fee rise is bad news for town
Dear Sir, — Conservative-controlled Cheshire East has announced that from 8th March car parking tariffs will be increased by 10p in Congleton. In addition, free car parking on Park Street Car Park will end.
Local Liberal Democrats oppose higher parking charges because research shows that they deter people from visiting towns and affect the amount of time we spend in the town centre.
We are all aware that our high street is struggling, and with the recent loss of another bank and post office and continual rumours of additional shop closures, we have to look for more imaginative ways to support our local town centre economy.
