Perfectly valid to express my doubts
Dear Sir, — Since I was the one who first questioned Coun George Hayes’ ability to adequately attend to the needs of his constituents following his appointment to permanent employment in Cambridgeshire, I feel that I need to clarify my position in light of the letter from Jenny Unsworth in last week’s Chronicle.
In my letter I congratulated George on his appointment but I think it was perfectly valid to express doubts about his ability to carry out his council duties being based so far away from Congleton.
He has assured the electorate that he intends to continue as a Cheshire East Council and a Congleton town councillor and that he can carry out all of his roles effectively and, for that assurance, we must trust him, but it is a situation which needs to be carefully monitored.
