Precept increases are for more police
Dear Sir, — I see, from his letter in last week’s paper, that Coun Paul Bates appears to have been asked about increases in council tax and specifically cites the fire authority precept and the police precept.
Coun Bates is at pains to point out that the fire authority group is predominately Labour and that the police and crime commissioner is Labour, and that the cross-party group also has a Labour majority.
From what Coun Bates tells us, he would have us believe that the increases only exist because of the Labour majorities on the two working groups, but what he neglects to mention is that, in the case of the policing group, the increase is mainly to increase the number of police officers in Cheshire — numbers that have been reduced to unsafe levels by the previous Conservative police and crime commissioner.
