Reading of D-Day poem was moving
Dear Sir, — May I through your columns correct the information regarding the poem read by the young Scout Barney Mitcheson at the Remembrance Day parade in Congleton? Neither Barney nor the Scout Association locally claimed authorship to this very moving poem but I am sure your readers will agree that this does not in any way detract from the moving delivery of this reading by Barney.
The poem used was written by Jodie Johnson, a young child poet (we think) from Lancashire, when she was nine years old. She wrote this to mark the 50-year anniversary of the D-Day landings and in support of the national war memorial at the National Arboretum. where I first saw this and other work by Jodie.
The full text of the poem and others by Jodie are available on the internet.
