Real heroes who care for people
Dear Sir, — I was in a local supermarket today and, while queuing at the check-out, overheard a conversation between a proud but concerned mother and another lady. The mother was saying that her daughter, who is a nurse at Macclesfield General hospital, had just completed four 14-hour shifts in a four-day period, ie 56 hours and without a break.
In these days of the much bandied overused labels “celebrity” and “hero”, I could not help but ponder on this subject and think just how lucky we are to have in this country, proper unsung heroes and heroines who seek no fame, fortune nor celebrity status but whose mission in life is to look after and care for people when we need it. — Yours faithfully,
