Station image dated to 1918
Dear Sir, — The image you published last week of Biddulph Station was given to Biddulph and Distinct Genealogical and Historical Society by Bruce Wright, of Congleton, for the archive and on the understanding that the source would be acknowledged.
After digital enhancement the image can be dated to 1918 through the date on the prominent poster. The locomotive is a NSR D class number 131 arriving on a down train from Stoke-on-Trent.
Service passenger trains were a rarity on the Biddulph Valley line, there were more private owner trains run by the colliery owners and the passenger service ceased in 1926.
A major publication is in preparation by Allan C Baker with whom we are collaborating. — Yours faithfully,
ROLAND MACHIN MBE
