Support MP in her difficult job
Dear Sir, — I am rather surprised that Jill Salt decided to give such a weak explanation for standing in the local elections as an Independent then in mid-term changing her allegiance and joining the Labour Party.
In her letter in last week’s Chronicle she says, among other things, “I have always been a Socialist,”, which surely begs the question as to why she did not stand as a Labour candidate in the first place.
There can be no doubt that she is committed to ensure the survival of several local youth organisations and, where necessary, she pushes for the continuous revenue they require, and her efforts are to be applauded.
In saying this I am sure that the work carried out by the many helpers and volunteers involved with the running of such organisations is of a social nature, rather than any political stance.
