Who speaks now for the horses?
Dear Sir, — Away back in 2006, yes 13 years ago, I was appalled and saddened to hear that nine horses had died as a direct result of racing at the Cheltenham Festival.
I was moved so much that I had to express my feelings in the way of a poem, (more of that later).
That fact was brought back into mind because it is now festival time again and I heard mention on the national news that Ballyward, an Irish horse, fell and was fatally injured on the opening day.
At the time of writing this letter, and it is still only day two of the festival, I have seen that two further horses have now also lost their lives.
