British Empire Medal awarded to Scout leader
An Alsager man awarded a British Empire Medal in the New Year’s honours list for services to Scouting said the news was “still sinking in”.
Don Longhurst, (61), of Derwent Close, said the honour was also for the volunteers who, he added, the local Scout group “relied on”.
Mr Longhurst is the leader of the 1st Alsager Scout Group and is also the deputy district commissioner.
He said this week: “I’m really honoured. But the award is not just for me. It’s for all the volunteers. We couldn’t survive without them.
