Council’s ‘urgent duty’ to intervene in climate crisis
A councillor wants Alsager to follow in the borough’s footsteps by declaring a climate emergency and has claimed, “as humans we have an urgent duty to intervene” to avoid disaster.
Alsager Town Council vice-chairman, Coun Jane Smith, has asked the council’s Planning Committee to recommend to full council that it publicly declares a climate emergency immediately.
Coun Smith proposed that the council will, in principle, welcome grassroots initiatives within Alsager designed to combat climate change at the most local level.
