Waterworks revamp will take two years
Improvements to make sure Alsager's water treatment works can cope with new housing in the town is about to start and will continue until 2023.
As a result, Hassall Road is due to be closed in both directions near the treatment works for around two weeks at the end of October and a 30mph temporary speed limit will also be introduced for several months.
A United Utilities spokesperson said: “We're going to be making some important environmental improvements to our Alsager wastewater treatment works which we expect to be completed in 2023.
“The work is necessary to meet environmental requirements for final effluent discharge from Alsager into the river Dane and its tributaries and to future-proof the works for projected population growth in the area.
“The improvement project includes building new treatment units and enhancing existing treatment processes.”
Hassall Road is due to be closed entirely from Monday, 26th October, to Friday, 6th November, the autumn half term holiday for schools, so that diversion works on the existing inlet sewer can be made.
The alternative route will be via Hassall Road, Pikemere Road, Crewe Road, Lawton Road, Linley Lane, Knutsford Road, Sandbach Road, Cappers Lane, New Inn Lane, Smithy Grove, Betchton Road, Alsager Road and vice-versa.
A 30mph speed limit is also due to be introduced on Hassall Road, from the junction with Heath End Road to outside Daygreen Farm, to ensure construction traffic can move safely between the offsite compound and the treatment works.
The order for the speed limit is due to come into effect from next Monday (12th October) and runs until February 2020.
Temporary traffic lights will also be in use during the work.
Meanwhile, Sandbach Road South and Audley Road are due to be closed for at least a week so Virgin Media can install new connections. The roads are due to close where they meet near Alsager's train station from Saturday, 24th October, to Sunday, 1st November.
The diversion from the Audley Road side, will be down to the A500 to the M6 junction 16 roundabout, the B5078 to Radway Green and then the B5077 into Alsager to Sandbach Road South and vice versa.
