Football league folds after more than half a century
The full-time whistle has been blown on The Leek and District Sunday Football League, which has decided to call it a day after more than half a century.
The league’s Mick Sale said this week that at a meeting held Monday, 1st July, only five clubs attended and it was unanimously agreed the league had “no other option but to fold”.
Mr Sale said: “Despite a widespread appeal for new clubs, we didn’t receive a single enquiry.”
Five clubs will continue to run, although none are based in Leek.
