Paying tribute to ‘a great retailer of the old school’
Tributes have been paid this week to former shopkeeper Alf Pound, of Mow Cop, who has died at Royal Stoke University Hospital, aged 93.
Mr Pound and his late wife Pauline retired in December 1994 after 35 years’ retailing as A and P Pound in the centre of Congleton.
The shop sold paints and other DIY material. Mr Pound was a former president of the Congleton Chamber of Trade and an active Rotarian, being a former president of the Congleton.
Mrs Pound predeceased him.
