UK’s ‘biggest mouth’ marks his 25th year as town crier
By James Connolly
“The biggest mouth in Britain”, Biddulph’s town crier, is celebrating his 25th anniversary in the role.
After years of competing across the country in town crier competitions, John Robinson, (67), recalled where it all began, in the pages of the Chronicle in summer 1994.
“It was my wife Sue’s fault,” he said. “She was reading in the paper that the town was looking for a new crier. She said, ‘John, there’s a job here that’s right up your street and you’ve got all the right qualifications for it — size and a big mouth’. I thought why not? I’ll give that a go.”
