A34 lorry fire causes ‘unbelievable delays’
The A34 was closed for more than six hours while firefighters tackled a lorry blaze at Church Lawton.
Firefighters from Alsager, Congleton and Macclesfield were called to the scene at Congleton Road South, near Red Bull traffic lights, at 8.15pm on Thursday.
Cheshire Police closed the road while firefighters tackled the blaze, which destroyed most of the vehicle.
The HGV was carrying “mixed food” and United Utilities and the Environment Agency were contacted due to concerns that it could enter nearby drains.
