Blaze at Mow Cop caused by bonfire
A large grass fire broke out in the Heatherside area of Mow Cop on Monday afternoon, with efforts to fight the blaze hampered by strong winds.
A spokesman from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that the blaze started accidentally after flames from a bonfire ignited surrounding vegetation, due to the dry and windy conditions.
The fire brigade received a call about the incident at 2.45pm. On their arrival, crews found the fire measuring around 20 metres by 30 metres, but this quickly spread to around 60 metres by 30 as the wind blew the flames over a wider area.
