Bogus police officers ask victims to withdraw cash
Police have warned of yet another sting dreamed up by fraudsters — this time criminals posing as police officers and asking victims to take part in a fake undercover operation.
Seventeen offences have been reported to police nationally. Two incidents involved the fraudsters fleecing a total of £20,000. Four further reports have been reported to Action Fraud but did not report a loss.
The fraudsters contact a member of the public, usually by phone, claiming to be from the police, or in some cases their bank’s fraud team.
