Cenotaph plan for renovations delayed to 2020
Congleton’s cenot-aph project has been shelved until next year.
Building work was scheduled to take place in time for November’s Remembrance Day service, but during an emergency meeting Thurs-day night, councillors voted to delay all plans until next spring.
Discussions on redeveloping the Lawton Street monument have been ongoing for seven years. The project was initially conceived to add a further 200-plus names on the cenotaph, to commemorate those fallen in the First World War.
