Community-minded Marton man given MBE by Queen
A Marton man said that he was “nervous and humbled” after being awarded an MBE by the Queen for his improvements to palliative care treatment at East Cheshire Hospice.
Robert Barrow MBE DL, (69), travelled to London with his wife Pam, daughter Fiona Hobbs and grandson Kit Hobbs, but had no idea until the last minute that it would be the Queen who would present him with the medal.
Mr Barrow received the honour for his services to education, charity and various other philanthropic activities. Among his achievements were bolstering the hospice’s governance and encouraging new services such as the out of hours home service.
