Council votes to review keeping borough mayor

Borough councillors have stopped the axe from falling on Cheshire East Council’s mayoralty — for now at least.
Coun James Barber (Lab), member for Broken Cross and Upton in Macclesfield, put forward a motion calling for the role to be ditched from May 2020 at Thursday’s meeting, (writes local democracy reporter Stephen Topping).
But deputy council leader, Coun Craig Browne, Independent member for Alderley Edge, suggested the local authority should instead conduct a review into the role ahead of the next municipal year.
