Country Folk chip in to seniors’ awards event
Astbury Golf Club seniors presented the first awards of the new season last Friday at a presentation evening with a difference.
For the first time, seniors were entertained by the Country Folk, a folk group comprising members Andy Holland, Martin Leake, and, making a guest appearance, seniors’ chairman Richard Alcock.
With a repertoire of American and English folk music, and a touch of skiffle, they finished off their set with My Old Man’s A Golfer, with apologies to Lonnie Donegan, and Fred Wedlock’s The Oldest Swinger In Town, songs very appropriate to a gathering of senior golfers.
