‘False promises’ stymie rugby club home plans
The rugby club in Congleton has offered to resolve the problems of playing on Hankinson’s Field by offering to pay for a new community centre — a move stymied by “false promises” and red tape.
In a statement released to the Chronicle, and published on our letters page, the trustees of Congleton Rugby Club said they wanted to clarify the current situation with regard to the leisure centre and ongoing discussions with Cheshire East Council.
As previously reported in the Chronicle, Sport England, acting on behalf of the RFU, itself speaking for Congleton RUFC, has lodged an objection to plans for Congleton Leisure Centre. If key issues cannot be resolved, Sport England can ask for the application to be referred up to Westminster for a final decision.
