Leader resigns as Tories lose stranglehold
The local elections brought about an end to the Conservative’s stranglehold at both Cheshire East and Congleton Town Councils.
The Liberal Democrats and the Independents won big at Congleton Town Hall, while Labour were left behind with no representatives from the town elected to either authority.
In Congleton East, Conservatives Paul Bates and Glen Williams lost their borough and town council seats to Rob Moreton, an Independent, and Denis Murphy, a Liberal Democrat. David Brown, a Conservative councillor for Cheshire East since 2008, held on to his seat.
