New wave as more public swimming pools reopen
More of the borough’s municipal swimming pools and leisure centres are due to reopen this month including Sandbach and Holmes Chapel’s.
Everybody Leisure, which runs the facilities on behalf of the council, has already re-opened 11 facilities including gyms, group fitness and outdoor swimming. It has now announced plans to reopen indoor swimming pools and four more sites in September.
Congleton, Holmes Chapel, Middlewich and Poynton leisure centres reopened on Tuesday.
Gym and group fitness classes have also reopened and are available to pre-book activity slots online at everybody.org.uk
Holmes Chapel Leisure Centre and Middlewich Leisure Centre will be opening in the evenings and on a Saturday for gym, group fitness classes and outdoor club sport bookings. This will be kept under review until the end of October, Everybody Leisure said.
Congleton and Poynton will be open seven days a week.
Everybody is also preparing to welcome back customers to indoor swimming pools and will be opening them on a phased approach following guidance from the Government and governing bodies including Swim England.
From 1st September, public swimming resumed at the following leisure centres: Alsager, Crewe, Macclesfield, Wilmslow, Sandbach and Knutsford, and Nantwich Swimming Pool.
From 7th September, public swimming will be available at Congleton and Poynton leisure centres. Children’s swimming lessons will start to resume from 7th September. For more information, visit everybody.org.uk/returning-to-swimming-
All swimmers will need to follow social distancing and one-way systems, arrive dressed “beach ready” and they will be encouraged to follow the national swimming guidance which includes showering at home and spending minimal time in the changing villages.
Due to the latest Government announcements, Everybody said all spas and sauna areas will remain closed until further notice.
Everybody has also made the decision to increase gym sessions from 45 minutes to 90 minutes while also increasing visitor capacity in some of the larger gym locations. This started on Tuesday.
Everybody said that demand for group fitness classes had been high with spaces filling fast so more were being introduced.
