Ofcom warns public of scam telephone calls

The UK’s commu-nications regulator is calling for vigilance, after scammers pretending to be from Ofcom attempted to target the Chronicle’s phone system this week.
Ofcom said that scams operating under the name have nothing to do with it. According to the regulator, recipients of the call are encouraged to hand over credit card details or make another call to a high-cost premium number, leaving them liable to pay a high cost for the length of the call.
The scammers targeted the Chronicle’s phone system on Monday, but the member of our sales team who took the call hung up within seconds.
